American Eagle Says Aerie's Rejection of AI Helped Win Customers -- Market Talk

1801 ET - American Eagle Outfitters says its Aerie brand is resonating with consumers in part because it publicly rejected artificial intelligence. Executives of the retailer tell analysts that Aerie publicly took a stance by saying they wouldn't use AI to manipulate or airbrush images of models. The campaign, known as "100% real," has resonated strongly with customers, executives say, citing an increase in brand engagement and awareness. Aerie was a bright spot for the company, posting 25% growth in 1Q same-store sales. That helped offset a decline in sales at American Eagle's namesake brand. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
