Meta Platforms (META) has criticized the Australian government's proposed news bargaining incentive, calling it discriminatory and a violation of the country's free trade deal with the US, news outlets reported, citing a Thursday blog from the social media giant.
The proposed regulation will levy a 2.25% tax on digital platforms' revenue in Australia if they do not work out content deals with local media firms, the reports said.
ABC News said the draft regulation will be introduced into Australia's parliament later this year.
Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
