Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TPE:2330) said booming demand for artificial intelligence chips is weighing on global supply chains, with shortages now affecting both chip capacity and manufacturing equipment, Taipei Times reported Friday, citing company Chairman C.C. Wei.

Wei said customer demand has grown faster than the company can currently supply, forcing TSMC to speed up expansion plans. He noted that the entire AI ecosystem - including memory, packaging, testing, and cooling-remains tight as growth has outpaced industry readiness, the report said.

Despite the constraints, he expects supply and demand to eventually rebalance over time. Wei also downplayed competitive threats, saying Taiwan's AI chip industry retains a strong global edge, according to the news outlet.
