Swiss Watchmakers Should Expect Only Moderate Growth in China -- Market Talk

1014 GMT - Swiss watch sector should only expect moderate growth in China over the coming years, Vontobel analyst Jean-Philippe Bertschy says. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry said that exports of timepieces made in Switzerland to China dropped more than 21% in May compared with the year-earlier period. "I would not overinterpret a single month's print; on a year‑to‑date basis China is only slightly negative, which in my view gives a more accurate picture of the market," Bertschy says. China is in the process of finding a trough and export growth will normalize around current levels rather than stage a sharp recovery, he says. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)
