Moderna (MRNA) plans to invest in production sites in Germany and is interested in the plants that BioNTech (BNTX) has slated for closure, according to a Google translation of a Wednesday report from German news outlet Handelsblatt.

CEO Stephane Bancel issued the remarks during an interview with Handelsblatt, saying the BioNTech plants "would be an interesting option" if Moderna could reach an agreement with the German government.

Moderna did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
