Definium Therapeutics shares surged in premarket trading Monday after the company reported strong phase 3 results for its experimental depression treatment.

Shares traded 50% higher ahead of the morning bell at $36.74.

The late-stage clinical biopharmaceutical company said patients receiving DT120, also known as lysergide, showed an improvement on a standard depression scale at week six, with effects emerging as early as the first week and lasting for up to 12 weeks.

The Emerge study met its primary and all key secondary endpoints, including an eight-point placebo-adjusted reduction in symptoms by the sixth week.

"The Emerge topline results represent unprecedented and highly differentiated efficacy, demonstrating that a single dose of DT120 ODT can deliver rapid, robust, and durable relief in major depressive disorder," said Chief Executive Rob Barrow.
