Wendy's (WEN) shares were up 15% in Thursday's premarket activity after closing 26% higher in regular trading on Wednesday, as, according to media reports, the meme-stock crowd rushed to buy the heavily shorted stock.
The short interest in the company stood at about 50.3 million shares, with an average daily trading volume of roughly 10.7 million shares and a 4.70 days-to-cover ratio as of May 29, according to data compiled by Nasdaq.
As of June 13, 2025, the corresponding figures were a short interest of about 17.9 million shares, an average trading volume of more than 5.70 million shares, and a days-to-cover ratio of almost 3.14, according to the Nasdaq data.
