7月9日，日本央行前官员渡边努周三表示，日本央行可能在今年晚些时候加快加息步伐，并最终将基准利率推高至2%以上，以遏制通胀。
渡边努表示：“我相信利率的最终峰值将高于大多数人目前的预期。终端利率将在2%左右，或略高于此。”渡边表示：“政策应以动态而非静态方式思考。”他补充称，终端利率不仅取决于中性利率的计算，还包括在日本央行明确收紧政策前通胀超调等因素。渡边表示，此前当局一直采取“被动式”政策应对，力求实现薪资上涨带动需求拉动型物价上涨的良性循环。随着基础通胀接近2%目标，委员会可能转向更主动的立场，以防止物价增长超调。据当时一些当地媒体报道，渡边在2023年曾与植田一起成为央行行长的潜在候选人之一。
