一位前日本央行官员表示，随着日本央行加紧应对通胀压力，该行可能在今年晚些时候加快加息步伐，并最终将基准利率提高至2%以上。
“我认为利率最终峰值将高于大多数人目前的预期，”1999年离开日本央行、现为东京大学名誉教授的Tsutomu Watanabe周三接受彭博采访时表示，“终点利率大约会在2%，或者略高于2%。”
在行长植田和男领导下，日本央行已先后五次上调政策利率。最近一次加息发生在上个月，将利率提高至1%，创31年来最高水平。
根据6月加息后进行的一项调查，多数经济学家预计日本央行将在年底前再次加息，而本轮周期终点利率大约为1.75%。
作为日本最知名的通胀问题专家之一，Tsutomu Watanabe认为目前尚无通胀失控的严重风险。
