Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google has agreed to purchase the initial output from the Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas under a long-term virtual power purchase agreement, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

Google will purchase the project's initial 1.6 gigawatts of solar generation and 2 gigawatt-hours of battery storage when operations begin in 2029, the report said.

The project is expected to expand to 2.5 gigawatts of solar capacity and 2.9 gigawatt-hours of storage after completion, according to the report.

Google did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
