NextEra Energy recorded a big jump in profit for the second quarter from climbing revenue and a decline in costs.

The clean-energy company posted a profit of $3.14 billion, or $1.50 a share, up from $2.03 billion, or 98 cents a share, in the same quarter a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, adjusted earnings were $1.15 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet had been expecting $1.11 a share.

Revenue jumped 12% to $7.53 billion, below analyst forecasts for $8.11 billion.

Operating expenses meanwhile fell 10% to $5.29 billion.

The profit surge comes as NextEra works to complete a blockbuster deal to buy Dominion Energy for roughly $67 billion and create the largest U.S. electricity producer.
