Chinese Expansion Set to Help Ease Global NAND Flash Shortages by Late 2027

0702 GMT - Chinese NAND flash memory makers are set to boost their production capacity as they deploy new manufacturing equipment, according to research firm TrendForce. Surging AI demand has kept the overall market undersupplied throughout 2026, driving an estimated 4%-5% supply deficit, the firm says in a report. As they expand, Chinese suppliers are expected to raise their share of global NAND flash bit output to nearly 19%, it says. This will give Chinese manufacturers an opportunity to capture market share while their Korean, U.S., and Japanese rivals remain constrained by existing fab space and are mainly limited to selectively upgrading current facilities. Ultimately, this output growth, combined with weak demand for smartphones and notebooks, is expected to help restore market balance and ease global supply constraints by 2H 2027, TrendForce says.(jie.yang@wsj.com)
