一位期权交易员投入逾2000万美元，押注玉米价格将升至2023年以来最高水平。在玉米出口量创纪录之际，美国农户在春播季缩减了玉米种植面积。
周三，芝加哥期货交易所成交了一笔规模达10.5万份的11月5.50美元/6美元看涨价差期权交易，对应玉米数量超过5亿蒲式耳。
受高温热浪影响，美国农作物生长势头减弱，而7月通常是美国农作物生长发育最关键的月份。随着美国玉米播种面积降至两年来最低水平，分析师此前表示，无论是产量进一步下降还是需求继续增长，都可能推动价格走高。
周三，12月期货价格上涨2%，至每蒲式耳4.8475美元，本月累计涨幅达11%。交投最活跃的期货合约价格上次高于每蒲式耳5.50美元是在2023年7月。
如果玉米价格较当前水平上涨近15%至每蒲式耳5.50美元，这笔押注便开始获得回报；若价格升至每蒲式耳6美元，最大收益约可达到2.5亿美元。
这笔交易的规模引发了市场猜测，认为操盘手是对冲基金或其他大型投资者，而不是最终用户的套保需求。
