Interactive Brokers Group 2Q Profit Grows on Higher Trading Volumes

Interactive Brokers Group reported a higher profit in the second quarter, boosted by an increase in customer trading on the online brokerage platform.

The company Tuesday logged a profit of $312 million, or 69 cents a share, in the quarter ended June 30. That compares with a profit of $224 million, or 51 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, the company reported adjusted earnings of 69 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting 64 cents a share.

Revenue increased to $1.9 billion from $1.48 billion. Analysts were expecting $1.8 billion in revenue.

Commission revenue rose 30% to $673 million, driven by higher trading volumes. Stocks trading volumes rose 14%, futures volumes were up 2%, and options volumes grew 17%.

Customer accounts increased 34% to 5.2 million, while customer equity rose 40% to $930.3 billion.
