Novo Nordisk Says Ziltivekimab Fails to Reduce Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Phase 3 Trial; Shares Fall Pre-Bell

Novo Nordisk (NVO) said Friday its drug candidate, ziltivekimab, did not reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in people with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease and inflammation compared with a placebo in a phase 3 trial.

The trial evaluated once-monthly ziltivekimab 15 mg compared with placebo for rreducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, or MACE, which are defined as cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack or non-fatal stroke.

The company said two additional ongoing cardiovascular outcome trials evaluating the drug candidate in people with heart failure an in people following an acute heart attack will continue and are expected to read out their results in H1 2027.

Shares of Novo Nordisk fell more than 10% in recent premarket activity Friday.
