Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) said it was well positioned to benefit from the US Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response's (ASPR) new five-year medical countermeasures funding strategy, which ranked antimicrobial resistance the second-highest funding priority in the plan, with $4.46 billion earmarked for broad-spectrum antimicrobials, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

The funding aims to help antimicrobial candidates through each development stage, from preclinical research through to clinical trials and regulatory approval.

The firm's RECCE 327 treatment candidate has shown activity against a number of pathogen classes under its existing US Department of War programs, the filing noted.

Its shares rose 1% in recent trading on Thursday.
