美国多地卫生官员正在调查与生菜相关的环孢子虫寄生虫疫情。据美国疾病控制与预防中心（CDC）统计，自5月1日以来，全美41个州已报告超过4100例实验室确诊病例，其中至少308人住院，暂无死亡报告。疫情主要与墨西哥中部泰勒农场供应的结球生菜有关，该供应商已于7月17日主动召回相关产品。
费城卫生部门已确认13例本地病例，并表示实际感染人数可能更高，因为部分感染者无需就医即可康复，未纳入统计。密歇根州是此次疫情最严重的地区，该州已报告超过7000例病例。CDC调查显示，此次多州疫情已有至少98人住院，感染者遍布伊利诺伊、印第安纳、密歇根、俄亥俄、宾夕法尼亚等9个州。
感染者通常在接触受污染食物约一周后出现症状，包括频繁水样腹泻、腹胀、食欲不振、疲劳和恶心等。专家建议消费者彻底清洗生菜、去除外层叶片，并注意冷藏保存。高温烹饪可有效杀灭寄生虫，感染后可使用抗生素治疗。卫生机构表示，目前不要求公众完全避免食用绿叶蔬菜，但应密切关注召回信息，做好食品卫生防护。
