Consumer companies rose as oil prices plunged due to optimism about peace with Iran.

Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill tumbled after the burrito chain removed jalapeños from several Minnesota restaurants after state health officials linked the peppers to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 110 people.

Consumer products giant Procter & Gamble agreed to buy supplement company Thorne for $3.8 billion, bolstering the consumer giant's presence in the beauty and wellness industry.

Burger chain McDonald's named veteran insider Skye Anderson as head of its U.S. unit, aiming to boost sluggish domestic sales and improve service and quality.
