Singapore Shares Gain More Than 1% Despite Regional Jitters

Singapore shares clawed back to surge on Thursday, gaining more than 1% at the close, despite mixed performances across regional markets over uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran peace dialogue.

The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,585.28 and 5,645.72 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,638.99, up 57.62 points or 1% compared to Wednesday's close.

On the corporate front, shares of Koh Brothers Eco Engineering (SGX:5HV) were up nearly 1% at the close even as it swung to a loss of SG$5.7 million in the first half of 2026 from SG$3.0 million a year ago.

CapitaLand Ascott Trust (SGX:HMN) closed nearly 1% higher as it agreed to acquire Coliwoo Midtown in Singapore for SG$134 million, expanding its living-sector portfolio.

Meanwhile, Mermaid Maritime (SGX:DU4) established a new subsidiary in Delaware, expanding its presence into the US offshore energy market.
