Singapore Shares Open Higher, Tracking Global Markets

Singapore shares tracked Asian peers with a strong opening on Monday, as a weak U.S. jobs report indicated that interest rates might be held at current rates for a little while longer.

The Straits Times Index opened 0.27%, or 15.13 points higher, at 5,654.12.

Investors are expected to keep a keen eye on the upcoming U.S. inflation data, as the weaker-than-expected employment figures on Friday lifted hopes that the Federal Reserve will keep rates steady in the near future.
