Northern Star Resources Ignores Elliott Nominees With New Director Appointment

Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) named Terry Bowen as an independent non-executive director starting from Sept. 1, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian bourse, continuing its dispute with activist investor Elliott Investment Management.

Bowen is currently president of New York-based e-commerce technology firm Rokt, but plans to step down from the role at the end of August and base himself full-time in Australia, per the filing.

His appointment comes just a day after Elliott, a 5.6% shareholder of Northern Star, put forward its own slate of director nominees, saying Northern Star's total shareholder return has "severely lagged" its peers over the past several years due to execution and governance failures.

Elliott has been pushing the company to launch a strategic review that includes a potential sale.

Northern Star Resources shares gained 1% in recent Thursday trade.
