日本财务省一名前官员表示，日本央行应当在每次议息会议上上调基准利率，目标将利率提升至2%以上，以此缩小与美国的利差，缓解日元面临的压力。
“即便日本已将政策利率上调至1%，实际利率依旧为负，而其他所有国家的实际利率均为正值。”2013年3月卸任财务省国际事务副大臣的中尾武彦，周一在东京电视台节目中表示。
中尾武彦补充称，考虑到约2%的通胀水平，日本政策利率升至2.25%或2.5%并非异常。
就在交易员密切关注日本央行后续加息时点与节奏之际，他发表了上述言论。日本央行7月将政策利率维持在1.00%不变，植田和男行长在决议后的新闻发布会上提示通胀存在上行风险，为最早9月加息保留可能性。知情人士透露，高市早苗首相领导的政府同样支持近期加息。
截至东京周一午间，隔夜指数互换数据显示，交易员定价日本央行9月18日货币政策会议加息概率为79%。
