Market Chatter: Spirit Airlines Bankruptcy Court Delays $10 Million Google Data Sale Hearing

Spirit Airlines' proposed $10 million sale of internal business data to Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google will face a US bankruptcy court hearing on Sept. 9 after the court delayed the proceeding, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The report said the hearing was postponed after the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA objected to the sale, seeking restrictions on the use of flight attendants' employee data and additional protections.

Reuters said the union has raised concerns that individuals or small groups could potentially be identified because links across datasets would be preserved.

The data includes employee emails, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, calendars and marketing and operations records, Reuters said, adding that Google plans to use the data for product development and AI model training.

Google did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
