Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials fell as inflation concerns resurfaced.

Increasingly bellicose rhetoric between the U.S. and Iran has caused traders to retreat from rate-cut bets. The yield on the 30-year Treasury bond closed at the highest level since 2007. That has weighed on rate-sensitive sectors such as materials.

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal said two employees were killed in a missile strike on a site in Ukraine over the weekend, and others were injured.
