1618 ET - Foreigners have an insatiable demand for Canada government bonds, National Bank of Canada economists say, after review the latest monthly securities-transactions data. Based on the June report, nonresidents now hold a bigger share of Canada government bonds, at 45%, versus domestic investors, at roughly 42.9%, NBC says. "Nonresidents clearly value Canada's political stability, diversification from US Treasurys and [Canada's] relatively sustainable fiscal position. Maintaining that confidence is key," NBC's economics team says. Statistics Canada says foreigners have purchased nearly C$120 billion in Canada government bonds in the 1H of 2026, versus C$18.2 in the same year-ago period.
