板块方面，金属价格上涨带动矿业股表现领先，而公用事业和能源股则位居跌幅前列。不过，汇编的数据显示，受夏季交投清淡影响，基准指数成交量较20日平均水平低约20%。
欧洲股市此前已连续两周下跌，强劲财报季带来的提振逐渐消退。在地缘政治不确定性持续之际，投资者仍在等待新的市场催化剂。不过，该指数目前仅较纪录高位低约1%。彭博调查显示，高盛集团和摩根大通仍维持对欧洲股市的乐观预期。资金面上，美国银行援引EPFR Global数据称，欧洲股票基金已连续三周获得资金流入。
Panmure Liberum策略师Joachim Klement表示：“在经历强劲财报季后，欧洲股市正在稍作休整。投资者将关注杰克逊霍尔会议，以判断各国央行官员对长期收益率上升究竟有多担忧。”
