3D Systems (DDD) said Thursday that it has signed a cooperative research and development agreement with Savannah River National Laboratory to find uses of additive manufacturing in advanced energy generation and national security applications.

Additive manufacturing allows for the production of complex components made from advanced alloys that 3D Systems said are difficult or impossible to produce using conventional methods.

The collaboration will focus on materials development, equipment enhancements, AI/ML-enabled process optimization, manufacturing systems, cybersecurity and workforce training, the company said.

3D Systems said the work will be conducted at SRNL's Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative in Aiken, South Carolina, with a particular focus on applications for nuclear energy and energy infrastructure.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
