金矿股势头强劲，8月的涨幅超过了芯片股多年来任何卓越的表现。
MSCI全球金矿股指数本月上涨43%，有望创下有纪录以来最大单月涨幅。即使在今年最炙手可热的时候，芯片股也望尘莫及：MSCI全球半导体指数及费城半导体指数在4月份创下了最佳单月表现，分别上涨27%和38%。
在这场涨势爆发前，美国财政部本月稍早意外宣布了扩大债券回购规模的计划，以压低借贷成本。这重新激活了所谓的货币贬值交易；即押注美元等货币将持续贬值，促使投资者转向黄金等其他资产以保值。
“从证券的角度来看，黄金是我们最大的超配资产之一，”Bank J． Safra Sarasin股票部主管Tomasz Godziek表示。他看好美元贬值的题材，也认为黄金是一种战略资产，各国央行可以利用它来实现储备多元化。
本月迄今，黄金价格已上涨13%，目前交易价格超过每盎司4，500美元。
