当地时间24日，谈及加美关税冲突，加拿大总理卡尼表示，如果美国改变策略，加拿大愿意进行对话。卡尼称，如果“美国人首先以对我们产业的正确态度和真正的伙伴关系坐到谈判桌前，我们当然也会坐到谈判桌前。”他表示，不会接受“加拿大是美国的附庸”这种观点，也不会接受加拿大相对于美国应该处于劣势的观点。

对于美国总统特朗普最新的关税威胁，卡尼表示，他不感到惊讶。卡尼说，美国想利用不公平的谈判条款摧毁加拿大的汽车、钢铁和铝业。他表示，绝不会接受这种结果。

24日稍早，美总统特朗普通过社交媒体威胁称，从2027年1月1日起，对所有加拿大汽车和钢铁的关税提高到50%。（总台记者 赵淼）

近日，加拿大和美国之间的贸易谈判宣告破裂。加美此轮的贸易谈判始于7月20日，特朗普威胁对从加拿大进口的价值约200亿美元的数百项特定商品加征50%关税，从美东时间8月19日开始生效。到了8月18日晚间，美方又宣布推迟三天加征关税。

据美加双方披露的消息，两国谈判代表在美国首都华盛顿展开连续多日的磋商，到8月21日深夜，加拿大总理卡尼宣布，暂停与美国的贸易谈判，并召回了谈判团队。24日，美国副总统万斯称，与加拿大的贸易谈判仍在进行。
