路透8月24日 - 加拿大总理卡尼周一表示，对于美国可能对加拿大采取某种形式的报复措施，他并不感到意外。此前，美国总统特朗普最新威胁称，可能提高对加拿大汽车、汽车零部件和钢铁产品的关税。
卡尼是在被问及特朗普上述关税威胁时作出这一表态的。“美国会对加拿大采取某种形式的报复措施，这并不令人意外，”卡尼说。
卡尼周一在魁北克举行的新闻发布会上表示，美加之间有可能达成一项“互利共赢的协议”，但前提是美国必须尊重加拿大的主权。
卡尼说：“当美国人以正确的态度对待我们的产业，并以真正伙伴关系的精神首先回到谈判桌前时，我们当然也会回到谈判桌前。”
