mixed.\nOne trader said lower tariffs could reduce the Midwest premium and make the US market more attractive for Canadian producers, potentially reducing flows to Europe and tightening supply in the European duty-paid market.\nFastmarkets assessed the aluminium P1020A premium, ddp Midwest US at 110-113 cents per lb on Friday August 21, unchanged from Friday the previous week.\nFastmarkets assessed the aluminium P1020A premium, in-whs dp Rotterdam at $460-465 per tonne on Friday August 21, down from $465-510 per tonne two weeks prior.\nConcerns over low-carbon aluminium availability\nAnother trader said consumers have become accustomed to the availability of low-carbon Canadian material and could face challenges if supply declines.\nSupply of low-carbon P1020A aluminium has already tightened following placement of Mozambique’s Mozal smelter on care and maintenance, previously a major supplier of low-carbon metal to Europe.\nOther sources suggested that any decline in Canadian arrivals could be partly offset by increased imports of duty-unpaid material.\n“What could come next is that more duty-unpaid units enter the market from Asia and more often people begin to pay the duty,” a third trader said.\nFastmarkets assessed the daily aluminium P1020A premium, in-whs dup Rotterdam at $420-470 per tonne on Friday, widened downward from $430-470 per tonne two weeks prior.\nA producer said the spread between duty-paid and duty-unpaid premiums could widen, with additional duty-unpaid metal weighing on unpaid premiums while tighter Canadian supply supports paid premiums.\nMarket awaits details of any US-Canada agreement\nHowever, market participants remained cautious because details of any agreement have yet to be released.\n“The initial story is bearish for the Midwest premium and bullish for Europe, that’s the common opinion, but I am not sure it is that straightforward,” a fourth trader said.\nThey added that any changes to trade flows
