Shares of energy companies fell alongside oil futures after Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent's "Operation Economic Outcast" sanctions on Iran were more modest than feared.
The Trump administration decided to not yet impose secondary sanctions on countries doing business with Iran, but warned it would do so eventually.
Oil futures fell $2.05, or 2.4%, to $85.01 a barrel.
