Agilent Boosts FY View on Higher 3Q Profit, Revenue

Agilent Technologies lifted its outlook for the full year after reporting a rise in profit and revenue in the third quarter.

The laboratory supplies and services company on Wednesday said it now expects full-year revenue between $7.49 billion and $7.51 billion, up from a range of $7.39 billion to $7.49 billion. Adjusted per-share earnings are expected between $6.18 and $6.21, up from a range of $6.00 to $6.10.

Analysts polled by FactSet are expecting full-year adjusted earnings of $6.06 a share on $7.45 billion in revenue.

"We are seeing improving end markets, stronger demand in key regions, and excellent customer response to our innovative product launches," Chief Executive Officer Padraig McDonnell said. "All of this gives us confidence in our increased outlook and our ability to sustainably outperform our end markets."

Shares rose 4.5% to $162.00 in after-hours trading. The stock closed roughly flat at $155.08, up 14% this year.

The company reported a third-quarter profit of $362 million, or $1.28 a share, in the quarter ended July 31. That compares with a profit of $336 million, or $1.18 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, the company reported adjusted earnings of $1.62 a share. Analysts were expecting $1.49 a share. The result includes a benefit from tariff refunds of 6 cents a share, Agilent said.

Revenue rose to $1.88 billion, up from $1.74 billion a year prior and beating analyst estimates of $1.84 billion.

For the current fourth quarter, the company is projecting adjusted earnings between $1.71 and $1.74 a share on revenue between $1.98 billion and $2 billion. The guidance includes no expected benefits from tariff refunds, the company said.

Analysts are expecting fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.72 a share on revenue of $1.97 billion.
