ChainCatcher 消息，稳定币发行商 Tether 于 2023 年 5 月进入乌拉圭，计划与当地持牌公司开展可持续比特币挖矿并投资能源生产。项目在 Florida 省设有两处矿场，投资额估计各为 6000 万美元，总额约 1.2 亿美元。
乌拉圭国有电力公司 UTE 与 Tether 就供电合同额度产生分歧。Tether 旗下乌拉圭实体 Microfin 于 2025 年 5 月停止支付电费，6 月通知拟终止合同；7 月 25 日，UTE 切断矿场供电，Microfin 欠款近 500 万美元，月度电费约 200 万美元。
Tether 于 2025 年 11 月 25 日通知乌拉圭劳动部门停止运营，38 个本地岗位中有 30 个被取消。UTE 表示 Microfin 已于 12 月结清欠款；2025 年乌拉圭 98%的发电量来自可再生能源。
