Here's how trading hours and other services are affected by the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7

Wall Street will be taking Labor Day off.

Labor Day is around the corner, so prepare for plenty of scheduling changes.

The annual celebration of American workers falls on Monday, Sept. 7, this year. And while summer 2026 technically ends on Sept. 21 in the U.S., the Labor Day holiday also is considered by many to be the unofficial end of the season - one that sees many Americans firing up their barbecue grills, traveling or hitting the beach one last time.

This month is also historically a turbulent one for stocks, although the S&P 500 SPX could be poised to buck the trend and avoid major September losses this year. But U.S. investors will be taking a break from the action on Monday since, as with most federal holidays, there are many closings on Labor Day - including the financial markets.

Here's what you need to know.

FedEx $(FDX)$ will also not be operating on Labor Day - with some exceptions. Its premium Custom Critical shipment service will continue, and FedEx Office stores will be open with modified hours, depending on location. Check your local store.

Similarly, UPS (UPS) will not offer pickup or delivery services, save for its Express Critical shipments. And UPS Store locations may be closed, but customers can check with your local store to be sure.

Banks are generally closed on Labor Day, as Federal Reserve banks and their branches observe the holiday, and most commercial banks adhere to the Federal Reserve's holiday schedule. But check with your local branch to be sure.

It's still summer break in the U.S., so regular classes at the majority of schools and colleges are not in session yet, and those that are tend to observe the federal holiday. Most summer classes also tend to follow federal holiday schedules, so they are likely closed, but check with your school or school district to be sure.

There are a few high-profile store closures too, such as Costco (COST), which will be closed on Monday. Various in-store pharmacies may have modified hours, and some grocery stores like Aldi will also have modified hours on Monday.
