WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Delegates to the 45th International Convention of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers have elected new General Executive Officers; Kevin Bryenton will take the helm as general president, James Mahoney as general secretary and David Beard as general treasurer.

Held under the theme "Forging Our Future: Strength Beyond Steel," the convention brings together ironworkers from across the United States and Canada to set the union's direction for the next five years. The theme reflects the union's focus on strengthening its members, expanding opportunities and preparing for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The officers will lead the union over the next five years as the Iron Workers focus on organizing, training, safety, political and legislative advocacy, and expanding opportunities for members across the United States and Canada.

"The future of the Iron Workers is strong, but we cannot take that strength for granted," Bryenton said. "We must grow, organize and train with purpose. We must make sure every member goes home safe, that our members and their families have support when they need it, and that this union is ready to meet the work in front of us."

Bryenton, the union's 14th general president, began his career as an apprentice with Toronto Local 721 and has served the union at the local, district council and international levels. As a generational ironworker, he brings deep ties to the trade and a lifetime of hands-on experience to his leadership.

His administration will focus on growing the union, empowering local unions, expanding apprenticeship and training, protecting member safety and mental health, and positioning the Iron Workers to meet demand in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, data centers and other growing industries.

Mahoney and Beard will help lead the International's work to protect area standards, support signatory contractors, grow market share and ensure members are prepared for major projects reshaping the construction and manufacturing industries.

The leadership team will also continue the union's work to defend prevailing wage protections, advance safe jobsites, strengthen mental health, further benefits and promote the dignity of skilled union labor.

The Iron Workers Union (IW) represents 130,000 ironworkers in North America who work in construction on bridges; structural steel; ornamental, architectural, clean energy, and miscellaneous metals; rebar; and in fabrication shops.
