FuelCell Energy sales fell in the fiscal third quarter due to fewer deliveries in South Korea and the temporary shutdown of a project on a Navy base.

The energy company said Wednesday that revenue slid 29% to $33.0 million. Analysts surveyed by FactSet forecast revenue of $38.8 million.

Shares were down 9% to $15.49 premarket.

The lower sales were primarily due to lower product revenue resulting from fewer module deliveries to customers in South Korea. Product sales fell to $18 million from $26 million.

Generation revenue fell to $8.8 million from $12.4 million, primarily due to lower operating output from plants in FuelCell's generation portfolio. The 7.4-megawatt Groton Project at the Navy's submarine base in Connecticut was not operating during the quarter pending an equipment upgrade.

Sales from services and advanced technologies were also down.

FuelCell posted a narrowed loss of $45.3 million, or 64 cents a share, compared with a loss of $92.5 million, or $3.78 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were also 64 cents, wider than the 41-cent loss anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.
