Berkshire's Abel Says Borrowing Costs in Japan are Still 'Relatively Modest'

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel said that none of the five Japanese trading houses his company has stakes in has noted the country's record-high interest rates as a "fundamental challenge."

"I think they see it as very manageable," Abel told CNBC from Japan, where he is currently traveling.

Berkshire has north of $15 billion worth of outstanding yen-denominated debt, according to its latest quarterly report. Abel said he still sees raising debt in Japan as an appropriate strategy.

Japan's 10-year government bond yield hit 3.01% on Wednesday, its highest level in about three decades.
