9月3日，据CNN，周二美伊展开新一轮相互打击之际，美军为40艘运载1800万桶石油的商业船只护航通过霍尔木兹海峡，护航规模创下战时新高。在六个多月前战事爆发之前，每日约有2000万桶石油经由该海峡运输。
官员表示，美军动用空、海、太空多维度作战力量，一方面持续打击伊朗针对海峡内商船的攻击能力，另一方面在为装载数百万桶石油的船只执行高风险护航任务期间，抵御了多轮无人机袭击。首位官员补充称，美军还在护航行动中摧毁了多枚反舰巡航导弹。 两名官员透露，周二美方依据现行战略开展多维度行动，打击海峡周边近 60 处军事目标，涵盖防空阵地、雷达系统、海上设施、布雷力量以及通信站点，与此同时执行船只护航任务。
