Alphabet's (GOOG) Google is set to release a new AI model with upgraded coding capabilities as soon as Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The model, dubbed 3.8 Flash and internally known as "Skimaki," has been preferred by Google engineers over Anthropic's Opus model in head-to-head testing within Jetski, Google's internal coding tool, the report said.

The Flash series is designed to be smaller, cheaper and faster to run than Google's larger Pro models. Google has increased research and computing resources devoted to coding and reinforcement learning this year, the report said.

Google did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
