Shares of American Outdoor Brands rallied after the company's first-quarter sales exceeded its guidance, with strong growth across its portfolio.
In after hours trading, shares surged 29% to $12.85. The stock had been up 30% this year through Thursday's close.
The maker of hunting, fishing and camping gear said after the bell that sales rose 25% to $37.3 million from a year ago. Most of the increase reflected about $6 million in orders that were accelerated by retailers a year ago in anticipation of tariffs. Adjusting for that, sales were up about 4.3%.
In June, the company said that it expected sales on a normalized basis would be roughly flat to up slightly in the first quarter.
Chief Executive Brian Murphy said that the results were supported by increased sales from its largest retail partners and that consumer demand also remains healthy across its portfolio.
For the quarter-ended July 31, American Outdoor Brands reported a net loss of $1.5 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with a loss of $6.8 million, or 54 cents, a year earlier.
