路透吉隆坡9月8日 - 马来西亚官员周二表示，随着气温升高，该国数据中心的用电量不断增加，这给政府留下了9吉瓦的燃气发电缺口，需在2032年前填补。
能源委员会首席执行官西蒂·萨菲娜·萨莱周二表示，8月第二周，数据中心在总用电量中的占比飙升至创纪录的9.3%，而今年平均占比为7%。
“随着天气变热，制冷系统需要消耗更多的能源，”她周二表示。
作为该地区增长最快的数据中心枢纽，随着马来西亚逐步淘汰燃煤发电，这个拥有约3500万人口的国家必须在2032年前将燃气发电能力增加9吉瓦，该国经济部长阿克马尔·纳西尔表示。
阿克马尔在能源委员会的一次会议上对记者表示，马来西亚计划在2044年前关闭最后一座燃煤电厂。
马来西亚正吸引包括亚马逊和微软在内的全球主要科技公司投入数十亿美元的投资，利用国内天然气储备来应对今年不断增长的电力需求，并逆转该地区燃气发电量下降的趋势 (link) ——因为伊朗战争导致液化天然气进口受阻。
但萨勒赫表示，鉴于今年和明年预计不会有新的燃气电厂投产，马来西亚将“优化”现有电厂以应对不断增长的需求，直至2027年底，但她未提供进一步细节。
萨莱表示，能源委员会预计高温天气不会持续到9月初之后，她指出，高温天气导致电力消耗增加。
“由于天气炎热，我们水电站的水库水位也处于非常低的水平，”她说。
