Samsara Shares Gain on Swing to 2Q Profit, Outlook Raise

Shares of Samsara edged higher after the company swung to a profit in the latest quarter and raised its full-year outlook.

The stock climbed 3.8% to $40.21 on Friday, putting it up more than 18% year to date.

The company, whose software helps businesses manage vehicle fleets more efficiently and safely, late Thursday posted a profit of $16.2 million, or 3 cents a share, for the three months ended Aug. 1. That compares with a loss of $16.8 million a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, earnings came in at 20 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected adjusted earnings of 16 cents a share.

Revenue jumped 30% to $508.4 million, topping Wall Street estimates for $483.3 million. Annual recurring revenue was also up 30%, to $2.12 billion.

Chief Executive Sanjit Biswas said Samsara continues to win an increasing number of deals with large customers, who are leaning on the safety-software company to digitize their operations.

"Customer adoption of some of our latest AI features is up more than 4x in the last two months," he added, noting that the company continues to innovate rapidly.

Looking ahead, Samsara guided for adjusted earnings of 18 cents to 19 cents a share on revenue of $514 million to $516 million for the current quarter. Analysts were looking for adjusted earnings of 18 cents a share on revenue of $509.7 million.

For the year, the company now expects adjusted earnings of 76 cents to 78 cents a share, up from a prior view of 70 cents to 72 cents a share. It also raised its revenue outlook to between $2.04 billion and $2.05 billion, from approximately $2.01 billion. Analysts had expected adjusted earnings of 72 cents a share on revenue of $2.01 billion.
