日本可能出售了包括美债在内的部分外国证券持仓，为之前一个月里规模创纪录的汇市干预筹措资金。
周一公布的日本财务省外汇储备数据显示，截至8月底，日本持有的外国证券较前一个月减少878亿美元。这一降幅与日本近期为支撑日元而干预汇市的规模大致相当。
日本财务省此前证实，在截至8月26日的一个月内，当局消耗了相当于964亿美元的资金，创下月度最高纪录，其中部分行动是与美国联合实施的。
虽然外储数据不提供证券持仓或到期时间的细分数据，但市场参与者估计，日本大约70%的外汇储备投资于美国国债。
而8月底时的10年期美债价格仅比7月略低一点，这表明外国证券持仓减少与估值变化关系不大。
