Sumitomo Corp. announced Thursday that it has entered into a comprehensive business partnership with Sakana AI K.K., a startup specializing in AI development.
Together with its subsidiary, the major systems developer SCSK Corp., Sumitomo will support the adoption of AI by the group's approximately 100,000 client companies.
Sakana AI specializes in the development of high-performance AI. Under this three-way partnership, Sakana AI will develop and design AI models tailored to each company's management challenges and business objectives, while SCSK will handle data preparation and integration with existing systems.
Sumitomo will leverage its domestic and international client base and support client companies in initiatives including improving operational efficiency.
Sumitomo also plans to explore the use of AI in its own business operations.
Until now, Sakanai AI's client base primarily has consisted of major corporations, including in the financial sector. Through this collaboration, the company aims to expand its reach to small and medium-sized enterprises across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing and social infrastructure.
Sumitomo is moving forward with building businesses that leverage digital technology and AI, including making SCSK a wholly owned subsidiary in March.
