Why Jersey Mike's First Public Earnings After IPO are Failing to Lift the Stock

Jersey Mike's Subs posted its first earnings report since going public, but the ho-hum results failed to provide a catalyst for a stock that also faltered in its trading debut.

Jersey Mike's reported $208 million in corporate revenue for the fiscal second quarter, in line with analysts' expectations. The figure is reported separately from systemwide sales, a measure of total net sales across every restaurant location, which grew 10% to $1.2 billion. Comparable sales rose 2.3%, meeting Wall Street forecasts.

For the fiscal year, the sandwich chain is targeting 2.5% to 3% comparable sales growth, including a projected 3% to 4% increase in the third quarter. Management also expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization to rise at least 20%, including 13% growth for the current period.

Shares ticked up 0.7% in premarket trading Wednesday as futures tracking the benchmark S&P 500 fell 0.4%. Jersey Mike's began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in July under the stock ticker JMKE. Shares slid 6% in their trading debut to close below their offer price.
