英国国家统计局周三公布，8月消费者价格指数（CPI）同比上涨3.1%，为3月以来最高涨幅，7月为2.9%。这一结果与经济学家的预测中值相符，英国央行预测的涨幅为2.8%。
通胀加速主要源于伊朗战事导致的汽油价格上涨，以及暑假期间机票价格上涨。
作为衡量国内压力的指标，服务业通胀维持在3.4%。剔除能源、食品、酒类和烟草价格的核心通胀率也保持不变，为2.6%。
英镑汇率变动不大。交易员们削减了对英国央行加息的押注，但仍预期未来12个月内将加息四次。
英国央行官员本周料按兵不动，因疲软的劳动力市场迄今帮助抑制了中东冲突带来的价格压力。
然而，随着战事持续，这种立场越来越难以维持。英国司机现在面临着2022年以来最高的汽柴油价格，而原油价格也已超过每桶100美元。英国央行行长安德鲁·贝利还警告，随着英国遭遇极端干旱以及厄尔尼诺现象的影响日益迫近，新的风险正在显现，尤其是对食品价格而言。
