1218 ET - National Bank of Canada economist Mathieu Arseneau says it would be "premature" for the Bank of Canada to raise rates in October, even though headline inflation remains elevated and fears intensify over a prolonged Mideast conflict. Arseneau says core CPI remains "generally contained" near 2%, wage gains have sharply decelerated and US trade policy remains a stiff headwind. He adds the inflation data still suggests the energy shock is not, at this time, spilling over broadly into the CPI basket of goods.
