Uber Technologies (UBER) was Smart Insider's stock pick of the week after President and Chief Operating Officer Andrew Macdonald bought $5.3 million of company shares at $75.83 apiece on Sept. 4.
Macdonald, who assumed his current position in June 2025 after first joining the company in 2012, expanded his holdings by 20%, Smart Insider said in a Tuesday note. The transaction was his first since becoming a reporting insider in 2025, despite already meeting his mandate to hold equity worth three times his base salary, according to the note.
The substantial purchase came shortly after the business announced plans to cut its workforce by almost 10%, according to Smart Insider. Macdonald also recently bought $194,000 of shares in Maple Leaf Foods, where he has served as a director since 2023, according to the note.
Smart Insider described the Uber purchase as "very encouraging" given his deep familiarity with the business and its occurrence one year following his promotion.
Smart Insider ranked Uber Technologies +1, indicating a strong positive signal.
