Across the region, businesses and governments alike are accelerating AI adoption to drive innovation, productivity, and long-term competitiveness.\nBut after hundreds of conversations with customers, partners, and business leaders across Asia, I've become convinced we're asking the wrong question.\nThe debate is no longer whether AI can be trusted. The real question is whether today's enterprises are ready for AI. That distinction matters!\nMost organisations were built for an era of predictable applications, structured data, and human decision-making. AI challenges each of those assumptions. It generates new data continuously, introduces autonomous identities, and operates at a speed and scale that traditional governance was never designed to manage.\n\n Our latest State of Data Resilience Asia 2026 research reinforces this reality. The organisations that will succeed with AI are unlikely to be those that simply deploy it first. They will be the ones that modernise the enterprise foundations that AI depends on.\nHere are three questions for leaders to consider.\n1. Do you really know the data feeding your AI?\nAsk almost any chief information officer (CIO) or chief information security officer (CISO) about AI and the conversation quickly turns to models, copilots, or autonomous AI agents.\nAsk where the data behind those systems resides, whether it can be trusted, or whether it could be recovered after a cyber incident, and the discussion becomes much more difficult.\nThis is crucial because AI does not create knowledge. It amplifies whatever data it is given.\nOur research shows enterprise data across Asia has grown by more than 30% in the last year, fuelled by AI-generated content, richer telemetry, hybrid cloud environments, and expanding regulatory requirements. At the same time, 43% of organisations now operate across multi-cloud environments, adding further complexity to how data is governed, protected, and recovered.\nThe challenge is no longer storing data. It is knowing which data can be trusted.\nWithout confidence in the integrity, provenance, and recoverability of enterprise data, organisations cannot have confidence in the AI that depends on it.\n2. Who is governing your AI workforce?\nFor decades, enterprise identity strategies have been built around people. AI has changed that equation.\nAutonomous AI agents are increasingly retrieving information, executing workflows, and making operational decisions with limited human intervention. They are no longer simply tools. They are becoming active participants in enterprise operations.\nYet most enterprise operating models still treat them as software rather than identities requiring governance.\nThe State of Data Resilience Asia 2026 report highlights the gap. While 73% of organisations across Asia have incorporated human identities into their cyber resilience strategies, only 34% have extended the same discipline to non-human identities. At the same time, 78%  say agentic AI is already increasing the complexity of identity management and resilience operations.\nEvery AI agent introduces credentials, permissions, and access pathways that require the same governance and oversight as any privileged user. Organisations that fail to extend identity governance to these non-human actors risk creating blind spots in their resilience strategy.\nThe question is no longer who has access to your systems. It is what they can do with that access!\n3. Can your organisation govern AI at scale?\nMost organisations are no longer debating whether to invest in AI. The harder question is whether governance is evolving quickly enough to support that investment.\nOur research found that 95% of organisations expect AI investment to increase this year. Yet only 42% conducted a comprehensive governance, risk, and compliance assessment before deploying AI solutions. Even fewer expressed strong confidence that they could identify AI failures, governance breaches, or compromised systems.\nPerhaps the strongest signal comes from what organisations now expect from AI itself. When asked what mattered most in AI-enabled cyber resilience solutions, they did not prioritise automation or speed. They prioritised explainability and transparency.\nThat should tell every business leader something.\nThe next phase of AI adoption will not be defined by who has the smartest models.\nIt will be defined by who can govern them with confidence.\nAsia's AI advantage will be built on enterprise resilience\nAsia has every opportunity to lead the next phase of the AI economy. But leadership will not be determined solely by who deploys AI first. It will be determined by who builds enterprises capable of supporting it.\nThat means rethinking operating models that were designed for a different era.
